SUMMARY:Oswestry\, Booka Bookshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon with beloved bestselling author Victoria Hislop as she returns to Oswestry to talk about her epic new novel The Wine-Dark Sea. \nGreece\, 1946. In the power vacuum remaining after the Second World War\, a brutal civil war erupts between rival left- and right-wing factions. The conflict spirals as the country pays a bitter price in human lives and fighting soon erupts in the mountains\, turning villages into battlefields and pulling ordinary women and children into the fray. \nWhen the government soldiers come to Kalopetra\, Fotini is nursing her newborn second child. She urges her daughter\, Iliana\, to hide with the older children as she and the other women are herded into trucks. Weeks later\, soldiers return for the children . . . but they are not to be reunited with their mothers\, a wholly different fate awaits them. \nFotini finds herself transported to a prison on the island of Chios\, where she befriends Markella\, whose little son\, Nikos\, is wise beyond his years. After months of imprisonment\, when Fotini and Markella find themselves separated from one another – and from Nikos – Fotini vows to hunt not only for her own child but for Markella’s too. \nThe Wine-Dark Sea tells of families flung apart across continents and of a strong\, determined mother who resolves not to let war destroy hers. Victoria Hislop is at the height of her storytelling powers in this compelling and thought-provoking new novel\, which offers insight into a little-known chapter of Greek history. \nVictoria’s highly anticipated new novel will delight those fans who cherish The Island and The Figurine. We look forward to welcomg Victoria back to Oswestry this Autumn to celebrate the publication of The Wine-Dark Sea. \nTickets: £12 without book (admits one\, £8 redeemable against a signed copy of The Wine-Dark Sea) or £24 with book (admits one\, includes a signed copy of The Wine-Dark Sea) \nFor information and tickets\, visit the website

SUMMARY:Linghams\, Heswall
DESCRIPTION:Victoria Hislop in conversation 6th October 7pm at the Neston Club\, Parkgate\, Cheshire \nWe are thrilled to welcome back to the Wirral Vistoria Hislop with her brand new book! \nBeloved\, bestselling author Victoria Hislop explores the turbulence of the post-war era in Greece in this unforgettable and riveting new novel that will delight those fans who cherish The Island and The Figurine. \nDuring three years of brutal civil war in Greece\, thousands of children were caught in the chaos that swept across the country. Huge numbers were orphaned\, many found themselves imprisoned alongside their mothers and others were left to fend for themselves. The Wine-Dark Sea follows the travails of a mother\, searching for both a daughter who has been kidnapped and taken behind the Iron Curtain and a boy who\, unbeknown to her\, has been sold into adoption. \nVictoria Hislop said\, ‘I am excited about the publication of The Wine-Dark Sea\, which is my tenth book. The post-war period in Greece has many untold stories\, buried through shame and a desire to forget. Research took me not just to obscure corners of Greece itself\, but also outside it\, to Hungary and the US. I continue to learn so much about Greece\, in particular the lesser-known parts of its history\, which are a source of great inspiration. The hidden stories of this country\, that has made me its own\, continue to fascinate me and provide rich material for fiction.’ \nTickets £12 \nTo buy tickets\, visit the ticketquarter website
